Last Monday saw my last act for WFDD on this trip to North Carolina before heading back to Nottingham and pastures new... and what a great way to go out!
On Monday lunchtime, the Hanes Brands Theater in downtown Winston-Salem played host to the latest installment of 'Triad Arts Live', a series of midday concerts put on by WFDD and the Triad Arts team, that provide live lunchtime entertainment to the local community. The event was hosted by WFDD's Eddie Garcia who did a stellar job of coordinating and interviewing the band. Also on the bill was Luciano's Taco Truck supplying excellent Mexican food for the near one hundred people in attendance. My involvement was with the live sound and recording aspect of the production. I, along with WFDD intern Iggy Livengood and with the assistance of volunteers Marley Priest and John Scirillo, set up and ran the live sound and the recording of the show for use on air on Triad Arts.
The Tyler Nail Trio features Tyler Nail (obviously) on lead vocals and guitar, Johnathan Loos on guitar and backing vocals and Quique Rodriguez-Pastor on bass and backing vocals. All three are talented musicians in their own right, but have come together around Tyler's songwriting to create a trio with a genuine intimate live presence and excellent, tight performances. Four songs, Saltwater, Georgia, Cussin' at a Neon Sign and Farewell the Dear, were played with segments of expertly targeted interviewing in between from Eddie Garcia. My personal favourite of the songs played was the finale, 'Farewell the Dear' which is a newer song that deals with love and loss in Tyler's very personal style, brimming with distinctive imagery. There is a music video for this song on Tyler's website which was made by Quique, which is embedded below.
I have since mixed the music for air on Triad Arts Weekend on Friday August 7th 2015. The show will be broadcast at 13:00ET on 88.5FM within the WFDD listening area and will also be available to stream live from www.wfdd.org.
After the broadcast I will upload the music to Soundcloud and post a link here...
