Today sees the launch of my brand new project... The Proc-Cast!
I'm really excited to share this project with everyone. It's a new idea of mine which focuses on promoting unsigned musicians and bands by sharing their music with a new audience. It's a mix of interview content, studio and live recordings. I want it to be for everyone, so I am aiming to get a wide range of people involved with genres ranging from rock to rap via pop and everything in between. Please have a listen and check out the WEBSITE. If you are interested in getting involved, please get in touch! |

Last Monday saw my last act for WFDD on this trip to North Carolina before heading back to Nottingham and pastures new... and what a great way to go out!
On Monday lunchtime, the Hanes Brands Theater in downtown Winston-Salem played host to the latest installment of 'Triad Arts Live', a series of midday concerts put on by WFDD and the Triad Arts team, that provide live lunchtime entertainment to the local community. The event was hosted by WFDD's Eddie Garcia who did a stellar job of coordinating and interviewing the band. Also on the bill was Luciano's Taco Truck supplying excellent Mexican food for the near one hundred people in attendance. My involvement was with the live sound and recording aspect of the production. I, along with WFDD intern Iggy Livengood and with the assistance of volunteers Marley Priest and John Scirillo, set up and ran the live sound and the recording of the show for use on air on Triad Arts. The Tyler Nail Trio features Tyler Nail (obviously) on lead vocals and guitar, Johnathan Loos on guitar and backing vocals and Quique Rodriguez-Pastor on bass and backing vocals. All three are talented musicians in their own right, but have come together around Tyler's songwriting to create a trio with a genuine intimate live presence and excellent, tight performances. Four songs, Saltwater, Georgia, Cussin' at a Neon Sign and Farewell the Dear, were played with segments of expertly targeted interviewing in between from Eddie Garcia. My personal favourite of the songs played was the finale, 'Farewell the Dear' which is a newer song that deals with love and loss in Tyler's very personal style, brimming with distinctive imagery. There is a music video for this song on Tyler's website which was made by Quique, which is embedded below. I have since mixed the music for air on Triad Arts Weekend on Friday August 7th 2015. The show will be broadcast at 13:00ET on 88.5FM within the WFDD listening area and will also be available to stream live from www.wfdd.org. After the broadcast I will upload the music to Soundcloud and post a link here... This summer's six week trip back to wonderful Winston-Salem, NC is drawing to a close and I have had the best time meeting new people and helping 88.5 WFDD running their Radio Camp programs for middle school and high school students. Radio Camp is a fantastic program which allows middle school students a first look into the world of NPR radio broadcasting. It lasts just one week, but by the end the campers have each produced their own radio story which they can take home and keep. The stories are also broadcast on air and published on the WFDD website. How many kids can claim to be published radio journalists before their fourteenth birthday?? To start with they learn about how to conduct and interview, using mobile recorders and about working with digital audio. They are each given an interesting local person to interview, this year we had a national television host and a former MLB All-Star pitcher to name two, and they conduct their interviews independently. Once the interview process is complete it's back to the digital audio production, learning about narration and producing a final product which is shared during a listening party at the end of the last day! Rock Radio Camp has also just finished, aimed at older kids (up to eighteen) this camp focuses on live music with additional radio journalism elements. The main event happened on the Thursday of camp when the campers put on a live lunchtime show for the public at The Garage in downtown Winston-Salem. The band Aquatic Ceremony played six songs split over two short sets. Campers were split in to two teams with half interviewing the band In between sets while the other half worked the sound desk, before switching roles halfway through, allowing everyone to have a go at each element. Overall, it Radio Camp has been a hugely positive experience for me, helping the campers and watching them learning and enjoying themselves has been a lot of fun. I really hope that circumstances will allow me to be involved again next year! |
